By Stay Fit Physiotherapy
At Stay Fit Physiotherapy, I/m always looking for ways to improve your care and as such I’m excited to now offer Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) as part of my extended women’s health assessment.
This comprehensive session combines everything you’d expect from a high-quality women’s health physiotherapy assessment, plus real-time ultrasound imaging to give you a clear picture of how your pelvic floor and bladder are functioning. Whether you’re recovering postpartum, managing menopause symptoms, or dealing with issues like incontinence or prolapse, this assessment offers deeper insight and more personalised care.
What Is POCUS and Why am I Using It?
Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is a safe, non-invasive way to visualise soft tissue structures like your pelvic floor muscles, bladder, and pelvic organs in real time. It helps us see what’s happening beneath the surface, while you’re moving or engaging your muscles, so we can better understand the root of your symptoms.
For you, this means:
● Seeing your pelvic floor muscles in action
● Understanding how your bladder is functioning
● Visualising organ support and movement
● Learning how to correctly contract and relax your pelvic floor with real-time
biofeedback
This added layer of assessment means your not just relying on what you feel or hear, you get to see it for yourself, making education and treatment so much clearer.
What Happens During the Assessment?
I have designed this extended session to be thorough, supportive, and tailored to your
needs. Here’s what it includes:
- Understanding You
We start with a detailed conversation about your concerns, history, lifestyle, and goals. This helps me get a full picture of what’s going on and what matters most to you. - Physical and Functional Assessment
I assess your posture, movement, breathing, and abdominal and pelvic areas. This may include an internal pelvic floor exam (with your full consent), or I may use ultrasound as a non-invasive alternative. - Ultrasound Imaging (POCUS)
We use real-time imaging to assess:
● Pelvic floor movement and function
● Bladder filling and emptying
● Pelvic organ support
● You’ll be able to see your muscles working, helping you connect with your body and learn how to improve control. - Education and Goal-Setting
I will explain what we’ve found in a clear, supportive way, using visuals where helpful. You’ll leave with a better understanding of your body and how we can work together to help you feel better. - Personalised Treatment Plan
I will create a tailored plan based on your assessment and goals. You’ll leave with strategies to start at home, and we’ll discuss ongoing treatment or follow-ups as needed.
Why This Approach Improves Outcomes
Adding POCUS to your assessment does more than just offer “extra information” it can directly improve your treatment outcomes.
Here’s how:
● Improved accuracy in diagnosis and treatment planning
● Better client engagement through visual learning and biofeedback
● Faster progress thanks to personalised strategies
